Biri Puli or Pitha Puli is one of the chappan bhog receipes of Lord Jagannth. It is offered to god in Madhyanna Dhoopa at 1 ‘o clock. It is specially prepared for bhog for Goddess Mangala during Navrati festival.

Ingredients:

To prepare batter:

Urad dal 1 cup

Rice 1/2 cup

Salt 1/2 tsp

Jaggery 1/2 cup

Shredded coconut 1 cup

Spice masala:

Green Cardamaom 1-2

Cloves 1-2

Whole pepper 5-6

Grated ginger

Ghee/ oil for roasting

Biri Puli
Ingredients.
Prepare the batter with soaked urad dal and rice. Grind along with jaggery and little salt.
Spread ghee/ oil on the hot tawa.
Spread the batter on the tawa.
Place stuffing of prepared coconut-jaggery mix along with spice masala and ginger.
Cover the stuffing with the batter again.
Roast the pan cakes till golden brown on both sides.
Biri Puli is ready for bhog.

Notes:

Ferment the batter 3-4 hours before preparing.

Keep the stuffing ready. Fry jaggery- coconut along with spice mix and ginger till jaggery melts and becomes sticky turns to a mass like consistency.
