Chaula Bara is a deep fried Oriya snack prepared with rice and urad dal. It is a famous street food of western Orissa. It goes very well with tentuli pani or Tamarind water and chutney.

Ingredients:

rice 1cup

Urad dal 1/4 cup

Ajwain/ caram seeds

Salt to taste

Chaula Bara

Soak rice and urad dal for 4 hours or overnight.
Grind together rice and urad dal to a smooth paste with very little water.
Beat the batter for 10- 15minutes.
Notes add salt as per taste.
Ajwain
Mix everything well.
Deep fry Vada in hot oil on low- medium heat till golden brown.
The Vada has fluffed up well.
Chaula bara are ready for bhog.

Notes:

Beat the batter really well for 10- 15 mins. This helps in aeration and fluffing of Vada.

You can also add green chillies, grated ginger, coriander-curry leaves to the batter.

You can also add a pinch of baking soda to it. I haven’t added here.

You can serve this with chutney and tamarind sauce. Add salt and jeera-pepper powder to tamarind water and season with ginger curry leaves, dry red chilles.

Hope you like this simple receipe. See you soon with another Mahaprasad receipe ….till then take care.
